With the aim to minimize the amount of paper waste produce by office, Eco India had created the Handmade Paper. With this project , offices particularly in India will now be able to minimize the need of paper, the possibility of cutting more trees and help save the forest. With the fact that making a single tone of paper from virgin pulp does require 17 large trees, that large number simply means that deforestation is not impossible that will eventually destroy natural habitats.
With the presence of the Handmade Paper, these unwanted acts towards our forests will be minimized dramatically. Other global benefits that the handmade paper provides include the reduced use of energy by at least fifty percent, up to ninety percent of wastewater, and air pollution reduction by seventy percent. These benefits may not be noticed immediately but in the end people will know how these green deed affect the environment and the world.
You might wonder why this handmade paper is eco-friendly. Firstly, since it is handmade, it does use less energy in manufacturing. Next is that, these papers use non-wood raw materials, which obviously does not require the manufacturers to cut some trees, and thus, saves many trees we have in our beautiful forests. Another feature why this handmade paper is eco-friendly is the manufacturer’s extensive use of solar energy, which is obviously a pollution-free method.
Aside from the green features these handmade paper has, it also boast off its quality. Compared to a mill made paper, these papers are more tensile and is not easy to tear because of its double-fold strength.
Finally, apart from those interesting green features that the Handmade Paper has, it also has a fine and elegant quality that will surely satisfies everyone’s need when it comes to paper. It is whether the users are corporate groups or students, the handmade paper will surely provide the right quality that the users may want and need. Even manufacturers can use this wonderful paper is also ideal in creating numerous paper products.

Almost everyone can benefit from some good money saving tips. Because everyone has a different budgeting strategy, it can be hard to figure out where to look for help or what information you can actually trust. I know that a lot of the financial type articles I find online are pretty much useless. While they may be full of great tips, I can’t seem to figure out how to actually implement many of them.

Today there are ides for saving money everywhere; in your everyday purchases, for your leisure activities, and throughout your house. Not all of them will be right for every person. There is a bunch of new information about shopping in an Eco-friendly way. There certainly is a lot to look through.

Some Easy Ways to Save Money Around Your House

Some of the best money saving tips come rather easily and are things we might already know about or have considered in the past. Our parents sometimes try to teach us these as we grow up, but we don’t always pay attention. One of the biggest drains on the wallet can be grocery shopping.

There are hundreds of money saving tips already published about saving money when you shop but any of these suggestions should be very simple actually do. That’s where the opportunity lies. Eating a meal or having something in your tummy before you go shopping saves on impulse buys that are due to hunger. You can also reserve an hour a week to cut coupons. You can even try your hand at gardening. Even with a modest garden a home can save hundreds in grocery costs over the summer season.

Saving Money on Those Big Ticket Items

Using coupons and specials deals on the big ticket items can always save a buck or two. On occasion, skipping the brand name product is a good idea so long as you know that you will like the alternative product. Testing new products that you have never purchased before in small quantities is better. You can buy in bulk after you’re sure. Going natural with locally grown produce at a farmers market is even better yet. Get out on your bike and take a look at what your local farmers have to offer.

Money saving tips might also be used to collect funds for college, a new home, or any other large purchase like a high, energy-efficient washer and dryer. Those homeowners who don’t make a lot of money but want to save can do so, though many of them don’t realize just how easy it is. The all to well known money saver is switching our your light bulbs to more energy efficient, compact florescent types. How about just turning off the lights when you leave the room?

You can save money in all sorts of situations. Building a cloths line in your backyard allows you to save energy and dry your cloths for zero cost. Getting your cloths dried by the sun and the wind makes your cloths smell great while saving much electricity.

It’s unfortunate. Many people can often save in many ways, reduce their carbon emission, and really make a difference but they just don’t think they can. There are some great Internet resources on this subject of energy conservation and cost saving as well as a good number of books.

Buying Organic or Sustainable Products That Saves You Money

Other money saving tips might help when someone is building a new wardrobe with little money or for someone who wants to spend less on anything in the home. There are ways to save on energy, environmentally-friendly cleaning products, recycled toys, and even education.

With gas costs soaring, citizens are looking for money saving tips and way to reduce expenses. We all want and need to drive but we have to be able to afford the prices at the pump. Hay, you could take out your bike and ride or better yet ‘ You could walk. If you really want to save money, you just need to avoid buying the stuff in the first place.

Some of these tips are simple do and others take some planning. There are many of the everyday products that can be bought for less, made out of natural or recycled materials, or just used in alternative ways as their more expensive counterparts. The key to saving money is to rethink what you purchase and why. The opportunities exist to cut corners and still do the “Earth-friendly” thing.

“Green baby” doesn’t mean raising a little reptile, but you can do a lot to help the planet with your new bub. You couldn’t tell from their adorable little faces, but your baby’s environmental impact is much bigger than what you can fit into a cute little pair of booties!

Some experts have gone so far as to suggest a ‘baby levy’ in the form of a carbon tax, in line with the idea of ‘polluters pay’ principle. ‘Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years,’ says Dr Barry Walters, Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetric Medicine at the Royal Perth Hospital. In a letter published in the Medical Journal of Australia in December 2007, Walters called for a carbon tax that would fund the planting of enough trees to offset the carbon cost generated by a new human being, which he estimated to be around $5000 at birth (to purchase the land needed to plant the trees) and then $400-$800 annually for the life of the child to maintain the planted trees.

‘The fact is that humans contribute hugely to the carbon economy, mainly through their consumption of energy, but also through their own metabolism, producing CO2 with every breath,’ he says. ‘Children and adults today live indoors, use air conditioning, electricity, mobile phones, computers, get cars of their own much earlier, consume more by having many possessions.’ The result is a quite a sizable increase in the modern carbon footprint.

While Walters admits that his initial idea for a carbon tax on childbirth was ‘tongue in cheek’, it was a genuine reaction to the ‘arrogance of the Australian government’ in paying people to have more babies given the environmental impact of each child.
‘Having children is a basic human right – there is however a philosophic view that there is not a right to unlimited procreation – as resources are limited and the more children one family has, the less is available to others,’ he says.

Meanwhile, some eco minded modern women have taken the matter to heart, and have voluntarily sterilised themselves citing environmental concerns. Toni Vernelli from the UK, terminated an accidental pregnancy and then opted to have herself sterilised reports the Daily Mail in the UK. ‘Having children is selfish. It’s all about maintaining your genetic line at the expense of the planet,’ she says.

How to be eco-friendly and save money at the same time? Well, there are various simple things that you can do to join the green revolution. These are the simple little things which may look insignificant but when done by each one of us can help save the environment considerably.

4. Don’t use plastic bottles and containers for storing consumable items, specially water. Plastic has a property of leaching into the water/food and contaminating it. Clothing and shoe production is damaging the planet too!

It seems that in the last few years, the environment has forced it’s way into most people’s consciousness from the sheer weight of bleak predictions about the implications of rapid global temperature rise.

The gas-guzzling motor car has been in the firing line for longer, but now there is a growing awareness that everything we buy has a greater or lesser effect on the well-being of the environment, our fellow human beings and animals.

The clothing and shoe industries have long escaped any negative scrutiny, but recently it’s become clear that their environmental impact is as damaging as any other. Many chemicals traditionally employed to treat and dye fabrics are carcinogenic and serious pollutants if allowed to escape to rivers and streams. This equally applies to the chemicals used to tan leather in shoe uppers and the petroleum based rubber used in the soles.

Consumerism and the move to the east

The problem has worsened with the gradual shift in production from the relatively controlled, (but costly), working environments in the West, to the low labor cost ‘sweat shops’ of some Asian countries. Here, human and animal resources can be exploited beyond the reach of the umbrella of compassionate and humanitarian health and safety legislation many of us take for granted.

The explosion in ‘consumerism’ in recent decades has fueled these changes as people, quite reasonably, want to enjoy the benefits of as many competitively priced products as possible. For example, if you’re a woman tennis player, and you see your favourite tennis player, Ana Ivanovic wearing adidas’ Barricade V women’s tennis shoe on television, and your friend at the tennis club buys a pair, you are naturally inclined to want to buy a pair for yourself, (at the best possible price), to keep up.

The enormous multi-national companies catering to this demand know that to stay in business they must compete in every area, not least price. They must be keenly aware of their rival’s like-for-like athletic shoe pricing.

The ‘Big Boys’ respond to heightened public awareness

However, with the sudden leap in the population’s awareness of ecological issues, ‘normal’ business considerations for these companies have subtly changed, as evidenced by the recent almost simultaneous declarations by the ‘big two’ sports apparel manufacturers, adidas and Nike, that they are ceasing to source leather and other raw materials from any country where any collateral damage has been done to the rain forests. There’s no point in designing, producing and marketing a fantastic sneaker at a great price, only to throw away many of these ‘positives’ by being associated with practises people now perceive as seriously detrimental to the planet and eventually even their own health and well-being.

To better align themselves with public opinion, both adidas and Nike now produce athletic shoes with eco-friendly considerations. The pressures have probably been slightly greater on adidas as it’s a German based company, and Germany has one of the most powerful green movements in the world. In fact Germany’s ‘Blue Angel’, formed in 1978 and composed of a group of 13 people representing diverse views across the media, industry, unions and the environment, was the world’s first body that attempted to label products and services according to their eco-friendly, (or otherwise), content.

‘Reuse a shoe’ to recycle, reform and replace

However, Nike were the first off the mark with their ‘Reuse a shoe’ program in 1993. They collect old worn-out athletic shoes to disassemble and then to recycle and reform into a material suitable for the construction of running tracks, court surfaces and playgrounds.

They also manufacture the ‘Trash Talk’ shoe composed of shop floor off-cuts, leather and synthetic leather compounds and shoe soles composed of reformed rubber from recycled old athletic shoes.

The Stan Smith Grun Shoe, (German for green), is one of adidas’ contributions to the growing demand for environmentally friendly shoes. It is a much greener version of an already successful mass-produced shoe.

How Green Can You Be?

Unfortunately, for any manufacturer aiming to be ‘totally’ eco friendly in their shoe production, the nature of the process is very complex and a wholly ‘green’ shoe is unrealistic for most, as the ‘natural’ alternatives would make the venture uneconomic. Many high volume shoes are produced with a combination of traditional raw materials with the more economically viable greener ones, which is a step in the right direction. (Excuse the pun).

A natural ‘by-product’ of concern for eco friendly shoe production is vegetarian or vegan shoes, as toxic leather treatments are replaced by less dangerous plant- based synthetic leathers. Indeed it could be argued that as ‘animal agriculture’ is the largest single contributor to global warming, these shoes are the only alternative to those serious about preventing it.

Certainly, farmed animals require a disproportionate amount of resources for the meat/leather that they produce compared to the plant alternatives, and the methane they readily produce is 23 times more efficient at storing the sun’s rays than carbon dioxide.

There are a number of smaller shoe companies that by their very nature are able to create products with next to no environmental impact. They use materials such as tree-tapped rubber, (not chemical), bamboo, hemp and organic cotton.

Bamboo and hemp are fast growing hardy plants that don’t need careful nurturing or rich soils. Their natural fibers can be woven to produce materials that are hard wearing, water resistant yet breathable, lightweight and easy to clean. Organic cotton is produced without recourse to pesticides that eventually pollute many of the world’s watercourses. Organic cotton farmers use natural pest control methods like introducing Ladybugs to their crops!

Boston based environmentally conscious shoe company, ‘New Balance’ even add rice husks to their soles to reduce the rubber requirement, whilst similarly aware ‘Keen’ add natural cork. New Balance also score environmental ‘plus points’ for keeping shoe production wholly within the US despite probable cost advantages of production overseas.

Some Seriously Earth-Friendly Businesses

Some shoe manufacturers center their entire businesses around an environmental awareness. A few worthy of note include ‘Patagonia’ who give 1% of their income to help preserve and restore the environment. ‘Chaco’ purchase wind-powered green certificates to cover their entire yearly electrical usage, and ‘Toms’ donates a pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair bought from them!

All these companies seem to have core considerations that the earth must be protected, the people producing their products must be valued and cared for, and the end product must be built to last, to counteract the ‘use it up, throw it out’ culture that has prevailed lately.

It is vitally important that the trend towards earth-friendly consumption is not just a fad, and that some of the shortcomings of plant-based clothing and shoes can be overcome, like the difficulty in infusing strong colors in vegetable-based fabrics without recourse to nasty chemicals.

Even now eco friendly athletic shoe alternatives are mainly confined to sneakers and general use sports shoes, whereas specialized running, basketball or tennis shoes are still made the old way.

The mechanism of change, if it happens, will stem from informed individual decisions, which when taken en masse, will change buying patterns and reward companies brave and enlightened enough to give us the choices we want and need, to minimize the daily damage we are doing to our fragile planet.
